Leica STED TCS SP5 II Confocal

Laser Scanning Microscope

About

DSC05058_edited.jpg

The Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) Super Resolution Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope enables the investigation of diffraction-limited cellular structures. Its multiphoton function allows deep penetration into very thick specimens.

The STED technology is achieved through the use an excitation and a depletion laser. Due to the depletion beam’s doughnut-like shape, fluorescence is inhibited only in the outer regions of the illuminated spot. The result is a small, tightly focused, supper-resolution spot that is scanned across the sample. This smaller spot overcomes the resolution-limiting effects of diffraction, resulting in more accurate scanning.
